By the way. Welcome.

We moved from Orange County three years ago. You will love it here after some adjustments.

Start buying clothes. You now need three wardrobes. Winter, summer, and fall/spring. Wait until you see the beaches in Western Michigan. You will be amazed. (Bring a wetsuit the water is cold).

Default Lofty ideals in Detroit

Snubs for Detroit?

Some great lofts and condos here on Woodward...right near Comerica PArk and Ford Field...

Detroit---the home you never thought you'd miss?

The few extra miles on the excellent freeway system would hardly be noticed..

If you are looking for young-adult-friendly, Brighton should not be your first choice. It is not remote, but it is rural, provincial, quite "churchy" and has a stark lack of recreational opportunities. There are some nice condo complexes full of recent foreclosures where you can pick a place up for almost nothing, but I can think of 4 off the top of my head that overlook the train tracks, others that don't allow pets, and all are 25 miles from Ann Arbor.

I would suggest Northville for what you are describing. It's much closer to all the action on the West Side, including Ann Arbor, Royal Oak, New Pontiac, fashionable Ferndale and of course Detroit itself.

The problem with living in Detroit is that most of the city is an impoverished diaspora and you run the risk of being killed, raped, battered, mugged, and/or carjacked on a daily basis, and don't even dream about sending your children to Detroit's public schools (let alone allow them to walk around outside). You'll also have to drive out miles to the suburbs anyway if you want to do any decent grocery shopping or other type of shopping. Do yourself a big big favor and live in the safer suburbs. It's better to live in the suburbs than to get killed in Detroit.

You may need to be more specific.
I know at least three Springwater Drives in metro Detroit... and I haven't lived there in almost 20 years.
