Hello from a new forum member! I'm spending more and more time at my vacation place in Alcona County, Lincoln, to be exact. I'm looking for philanthropic opportunities for volunteering. Like local food banks or....? Does anyone know of anything? Could be near Lincoln, Harrisville, Oscoda, Mikado, etc. Thanks!

There was a story recently in the Alcona County Review about a church run food bank in the area, I just can't remember which church. Maybe the people at the Review can help you, their office is in Harrisville. The Alcona Humaine Society in Lincoln is always looking for volunteers and then theres the local Historical Society ( check in with the ladies at the old train depot building in Lincoln). My husband and I will soon be retiring to our 10 acres just outside of Lincoln, maybe our paths will cross sometime

Have you tried the Forest Service in Oscoda? The local schools?

There is always the Jesse Besser Museum in Alpena. If you don't mind the drive, it is a lovely little museum. I am not sure what their volunteer opportunities are any more. Since I have moved away from the area, the museum acquired a new director and some of the staff has retired.
