It appears our intent of getting a place in Petoskey/Harbor Springs is likely moving forward a bit faster than we anticipated. We just returned from a week in the area and our service with Verizon was terrible, which I do not recall from prior visits. We almost never exceeded one bar of service and I had issues with call quality, let alone data access. This was on two iPhones (12 Pro and 12 Pro Max) and an iPad Pro.

How are other cellular service carriers relative to Verizon?

Verizon is notoriously bad in the area.

AT&T is pretty good throughout the area, never had any issues in Petoskey, Harbor Springs, around Nubs/Boyne, up State Rd. etc.

That who I have and my parents use who live up there.

There are some places when you get up along the lakeshore farther-up the Tunnel of Trees toward Good Hart & Cross Village that have some dead zones, on all carriers since you are blocked by some of the higher terrain inland, or in the shadows of the bluff.

Did something change with Verizon in the past 6 months or so? I have spent a lot of time in Petoskey/Harbor Springs and really do not recall having such poor service with Verizon, and I'm talking even right in the hearts of the towns where I can see across the bay to other town!

I agree. I lived in Petoskey for a year (lived around the Spring Street area and frequented downtown, as well as spending time in Harbor Springs). I have H2O Wireless, which runs on the AT&T infrastructure, and never had a problem.

Verzion is okay in-town in both Petoskey or HS but dead-zones away when you get north of the bay. Pretty lousy up around Boyne Highlands/Nubs, or north of downtown HS.
