My husband and I are relocating with our pets (a cat and a miniature dog).

We are coming from Toronto and moving to Michigan.

He's going to work in warren, so we are looking for something near there but We don't know if this area is good to live . We are looking for a nice, safe and dog friendly (parks/trails) area.

What area do you recomemend us??

Thank U!

I would look further north - maybe try Sterling Heights. The Dodge park road area is nice - safe area(local police department, library), great park for animals, etc. It is still quite close to Warren and a much nicer area.

I'd even look in Royal Oak or Troy. Warren's nickname is "White Trash Warren"

Hmm I've lived in Metro Detroit all my life and never heard that nickname.

It's easy to apply labels. I hear that Garden City is white trash too but I've lived in this area all my life and it certainly isn't.

Southern Warren has a lot of nice homes, more moderately priced and with more character. North Warren and Sterling Heights are the epitome of urban sprawl. Cold really.

There sure has been a lot of Warren bashing lately on here.

Warren is one of my least favorite places in the area. Boring, everything looks the same. Clinton Township which is just a little north is nicer. I'd even rather live in Ferndale/Royal Oak. St. Clair shores to the east would be good too I think.

I personally live in Warren, and I would not recommend anyone moving into the South Warren area. Its bad. The landlords do not take care of their properties and the homes that have been foreclosed are the one for sale. To say the least that people who owned them trashed them before they moved. South Warren used to have beautiful homes and neighborhoods but in the last 4 yrs it has really gone down hill. There is the major rat problem as well.
North warren isn't bad, as well as St Clair Shores and other northern suburbs.

I would look into Sterling Heights, Shelby Township, or even Washington Township. Washington Twp has many beautiful homes, It depends on how long of a commute you want and what your budget is. I would agree with not moving to Warren, the city was the gem in the 1960's but today it is not the same.

Default North of 12 Mile

I lived in Warren many years but moved about 10 years ago. North of 12 Mile is your safest bet. Depends on your house price range. If you can afford more and are not concerned with a further commute then I would suggest Shelby Twp and look around Stony Creek Metropark. If you want to be closer to Warren then consider around Dodge Park in Sterling Heights. Avoid Oakland County.

Agree with that! Way to snobbish!
