The why is mostly because of mandatory long term medical care coverage. It was passed a decade or so ago and makes a lot of money for insurance companies.

However you also have to consider the overall cost. In a no fault state, if you are in an accident, your costs and hassle are a lot less. So, in part, we pay more for a better system. We are a luxury state!

The dew point had been unusually high a few days ago.
But humidity? Oh, hell, no. That word does not apply to Michigan; not if you've spent a summer in Washington D.C. or down south. At worst, Mich gets a slight dampness in the air, but nothing that can rightly be called humidity.

Go to the Jazz festival downtown this weekend. World class Jazz and it is inexpensive (free if you do not mind sanding) and the humidity should not be bad. Certainly not in the evening.

I agree with Zenstyle. Not a drop of humidity here - my glasses don't fog up when I go outside!

Hey, as a state, we got water. Let all those other states that are building in deserts have fun with their waterless paradise.

My glasses fog up if I've been in a/c which is dryer.

My fake leather in my car feels tacky sticky. My cabinets in the house feel tacky sticky, the sheets feel damp (I have no a/c). The back of my neck gets wet with any exertion. Ok so maybe Louisiana etc is worse but this is worse than Dayton for sure. Its also so cloudy all the time. At least that I expected.

Oh, well....yes to air conditioning.

But have you been here for a winter? If the grey skies now bother you, plan your winter getaway NOW!

Just saved a ton of money moving to MEEMIC for insurance (auto and home). Unfortunately, it's limited to educational employees (teachers and staff). I'd suggest shopping around some more. We've had a hotter, more humid summer than average here, but there's no way it's anywhere near as bad as southern Ohio, Indiana, etc. over a longer time period.

Good for you for saving where you could. I lived in MI for 10 years in the Detroit area and I remember car insurance being mad expensive! It's far cheaper here, though PA gets you with their stupid car inspections and gas prices ($3.58/gal today).

I think it has been a rough summer most places. My SIL still lives in the Detroit area and it's amazing how many times it's been up into the 90's there this year It has been crappy hot here (mid-upper 80's) more often than normal as well this summer. Hopefully it cools down pretty quickly

And its currently 100% humidity. As it has been for a good portion of the last 3 weeks at least. Where I moved from in SW Ohio is 91%, high for there. Its def sunnier and drier there. Its the one thing I liked about the area was the weather.

Yes, I know I'm going to hate the gray winters. I grew up here and spent a good portion of my adult life here as well. Its just been a 14 year break in other states.

Dreading getting my plates Tuesday.
