I think this is a nice list. I've got nothing against Port Huron or any of the other towns on the eastern side of the state and I understand there are nice sunrises that come up over Lake Huron. But remember, you'd have to get up early in the morning in order to see them (except maybe this time of year.) On the Lake Michigan side you can sleep in every day, the beautiful sunsets tend to be late in the day. And because of the prevailing winds, the beaches and sand dunes are all along the Lake Michigan side, no sand dunes and not much in the way of beaches on the east side.
As for housing costs, they're probably cheaper along Lake Huron, but I think for the most part they are affordable on the west side. You sort of get what you pay for. Of course it depends on what you are used to and comfortable paying.
