I was talking about the Spartan Village rates--from the MSU site:

Spartan Village Apartments
Student rates
One Bedroom - Standard: $650
One Bedroom - Renovated: $716
Two Bedroom - Standard: $774
Two Bedroom - Renovated: $856

Note that the rates that are in the multi-thousands are probably per semester, not per month. So the most expensive Owen rate (single in a double room, $4,390) would be around $1100/month, which includes a meal plan.

The stadium is kind of in the heart of campus, so not much is really "close"--Owen or Van Hoosen would probably be the closest of all the areas mentioned in this thread. Heading west toward Frandor rather than east toward Okemos would probably keep her a bit closer to her classes. Keep in mind that MSU is HUGE; even living on-campus as a freshman I remember having to walk easily twenty minutes to some of my classes.

I don't know what went wrong with the link last time--I'll try to put it in here again. https://liveon.msu.edu/rates

Ah, just noticed that they do still include local phone service at Spartan Village. Nice to know some things haven't changed! Also, it may be worth including in your calculations that the on-campus rates include internet and cable in addition to other utilities (it's not clear to me whether this includes Spartan Village).

Good luck with your search!

Ah, gotcha. Yeah, we're definitely looking at these, especially if she can find a roommate. The $774 rate would be perfect, especially since they offer 9-month leases and utilities are taken care of.

Yeah, that would be her entire budget.

Yeah, that part shouldn't be too bad. Spartan Village is definitely in the doable range, especially since there's also a pretty convenient bus nearby.

I called them - they do include basic cable and internet. It's actually not a bad deal at all, especially considering how much other managed properties are nearby! DTN and one other company, Premier or something like that, are almost twice as expensive.

Question for OP---why don't you marry her, and assist with the payments of her apt? Seems you expect her to pony up the entire cost of a place you can "visit" whenever you wish, but no long-term responsibility on your part. You play, you pay

BTW, I went to MSU, great place, plenty of housing options, but like another poster said, it is a HUGE campus. Unless you live on campus you will need a car. At either rate, you will need a bus pass. Getting around is tough unless you're an Olympic sprinter! Consider what her major is, and where the majority of her classes will be held, to decide which side of campus she should choose for residence. IMO, one really needs to visit the campus before deciding on housing. Websites, maps, etc don't give a real feel for the size, layout, etc of the campus. I believe its one of the largest in the country. Good luck!

Perhaps for #2, if you want her to have a shorter commute, but still want to be in between the two areas, then perhaps Williamston may work as well. I don't know about this place, but it could work: Creek Club Apartments
Maybe Park Terrace Apartments there as well. This way you are still close to shopping in Okemos too. Webberville and Fowlerville may be other options.

Why don't we stick to the topic of the thread?

I have been to East Lansing and have a pretty decent idea of where her department is and what the lay of the land is. Had it not been for advice in this thread, I might not have known where to go.

Thanks, we'll give them a look!

All she needs is a bus pass and she'll do just fine.
