I agree with this.

I'm no legal expert but I had a volunteer gig for two years which involved me going to court a lot to lend support to folks. So I watched a lot of cases, including traffic violations. I was left with the distinct impression that most judges do not take kindly to excuses and whining (not saying you are planning on doing that! But quite a few people do.)

Take care of business by getting your license reinstated ASAP, be respectful and acknowledge you made a dumb mistake, say you won't do so again, and it surely won't hurt to ask if the points can be dropped, since you have an otherwise good driving record.
