Hello All,

I will be moving from Virginia to East Lansing in mid of May.

I would like to know if there are any India grocery stores in this / near by area?

Thanks for your response.

Thanks,
Mo_Shayra.

I've never been, but I heard there is a place called Oriental Mart on Grand River, in between campus and Okemos. It's not just Indian, but I believe it has some.

Also (again, never been) I've heard about some place called "Swagath Foods" down on Trowbridge Road. I tried to look it up online but some things say it's a grocery store, others say it's a restaurant... so who knows. lol

There is also a World Market in Frandor; I have been there... that's not really what you are looking for but it might have a few Indian items for sale. They don't really have any "fresh" foods though, just packaged stuff (and lots of non-food items).

Meijer and Kroger may have some things you are looking for too (and would likely be cheaper than a specialty store).

Sorry, (as you can probably tell) I don't really eat much Indian food myself but I hope that can help you at least start looking.

Swagath has a store component. I've been there a couple of times - once to buy fenugreek, and once mostly to look around.

The Meijer's store in Okemos and the one on Lake Lansing Road have a good selection of package foods; rices, beans, sauces etc. There is also a Food for Living, sort of a cross between organic, health food and ethnic cuisine offerings. I found yellow split peas there in the bulk food section. You might want to also try Horrock's out in Delta (west of Lansing). They seem to have a wonderful selection of produce and ethnic foods as well.
