Thinking about taking my wife up to the island for 2-3 days this week (Tue-Fri, not weekend). Anyone know if most of the stores and restaurants are still open, or do many close after Labor Day weekend (like many resort areas)? I realize that I could probably check individual stores and restaurants, but was hoping to see if anyone knows off hand, would sure be a lot easier...thanks.

Everything is still open, there may be a couple shops closed, but very little. Things don't shut down on the island until mid to late October, and even then, there are a few places open year round.

Yes they are still open. We usually go the first week of October.

They should be open for awhile due to the 'fall color tours'

Default Restaurants/Stores open on Mackinac Island?

Things tend to revolve around the Grand Hotel's opening and closing. The ferry boats stop running in Mackinaw City the end of October, but Arnold Transit has a "Winter Schedule" that runs out of St. Ignace once the 'City' stops running. They don't run 7 days a week, so be sure to get a schedule. Even then, it depends on the weather. Once our "ice bridge", between St. Ignace and Mackinac Island, freezes over (Lake Huron) the boat does not run! Then we get to take our snow-machines across the ice, and best of all, that's FREE! But, there is The Mustang, which is a local bar on Mackinac Island that stays open all year. The Pontiac Lodge always stayed open year round as did a couple bed & breakfasts. As for the shops.... they are closed up for the Winter!
