ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich., Aug. 30 (UPI) -- A Michigan family said a "weird looking" white blob they discovered in the yard turned out to be a large mushroom.

Linda Key, 53, of Rochester Hills, and her husband, Glenn, 52, said the blob, which is about the size of a basketball and weighs nearly 2 pounds, was first spotted Sunday among the rocks lining their flower bed, the Detroit Free Press reported Thursday.

A Michigan family said a "weird looking" white blob they discovered in the yard turned out to be a large mushroom, and not Micheal Moore as originally thought.

Oh yeah, I know several people who love them. Personally I hate mushrooms of all types, but puffballs are edible.

They're supposed to be very tasty eating. A basketball-sized one should last the family a while, too...

Tell you what - I'm a fan of mushroom/swiss omelets. I'll be on the lookout for morels and puffballs from now on.

Read it and eat!
Wild About Mushrooms: Puffballs

You can use puffies anywhere you'd use mushrooms, and they're a great substitute for tofu in Chinese cooking. Use them when they're the size of oranges or softballs...when they get huge like a volleyball they'll not be snowy white, often yellowish, and their use in chow is not all that good. Don't use them if smaller than a lime because they might not actually be a puffball but another mushroom you don't want to eat. If you find them small, come back in a day or two to pik, they grow quickly.
Cut them open and make sure they're solid, firm white all the way thru. If you find a couple and eat them you'll thank me. Tasty!
