me out here. There is a house on 31 north of town, before you hit the golf course on the right hand side. On the house there is a plaque above the door that says *Gone with the Wind was finished here*

This has plagued me for a while now, I cant find anything about it on the net....is it true? Have you seen it?

Not sure, but it seems to be BS.

In Bay View along the highway, near the light? I havent been by there just recently because of better ways to get around town when the "fudge" is in full force. But I'll go by there tonight on my way through.

Petoskey is my hometown though I live in Boyne City.

I think it has to do with the writing of the book. MaybeMargaret Mitchell finished writing it there.

There is no evidence that I know of to suggest any part of GWTW was written outside of Atlanta, Georgia, Margaret Mitchell's lifelong home.

I cross referenced her name and the book with Petoskey and Michigan on the net and found nothing, as I'm sure some of you also did.

I also asked several acquaintances (all very educated) who are native to this area about this, and none of them knew anything about it.

At this point, I think a knock on the door of that Bay View home may be the only path to the answer Michigansnowflake seeks. Kind of interested to know myself.

Here is the one thing I found, but not much to add other than saying it was the book that was finished there and the author:

Dennis McCann Takes You for a Ride: Stories from the Byways of Iowa ... - Dennis McCann - Google Books

Thank you for that link, makes me feel somewhat better about it. I still wish to know more...and wonder why this isnt a more known fact in the community.

Most likely it's a little tidbit of trivia buried in a significant pile of other tidbits here in the area. In short, as time goes by people just dont care about that stuff, it's a generation removed from them.
