My husband has a new job in Farmington Hills but would like to know more about all the surrounding areas. The things most important to me are the schools (our kids are 17, 11 and 9), travel / club sports (soccer, lacrosse and basketball) and recreational options like a pool, etc. We currently live in Hilliard, OH (outside Columbus) and I LOVE it here so I'm very leery from the get go. We have a decent sized home home here and realize that we'll have to go DOWN in house size up in Michigan. I'm fine downsizing (as long as I get a few of my must-haves in a new home) and am interested in property taxes as well as ours are HIGH right now ($8,000 for a 3,000, $300,000 home). So, can someone tell me something about the surrounding areas as well as Farmington Hills. Please help. I'm SO confused!!! I don't want to pick an area where we don't have good schools or where we have to drive 40 minutes to get my kids to their events. It's difficult right now because nearly everything we do in Hilliard is within 5 miles of our home! Ugh. Please help me. I'm trying to have a good attitude about this move!!

Farmington has decent schools, but they like property values have been declining especially in the top 300 k plus end of the market. Northville Novi or Lyon township would be a better investment but you would get more for your money in farmington hills.
