It’s nice to see there is more than one other defending the old Air Force Base and all the positive results that are in place. The history goes back a long time now since the base was closed. When I first arrived in this area and was looking for a place to build ( 12/years ago ) more than one realtor warned me , “ do not go south of 480 , the crossroads is as far as you will want to settle for “. At the time all this negative caught me off guard , especially after all the data I had discovered , mostly on CD for all the major cities in Upper Michigan. More history of this new found negative place K.I. Sawyer was needed . I found several web sites that tracked properties all around the World where Bases were closed and all the offers for cheap housing and real deals on investing. People from all over were looking to invest, as I recall most of the offere were coming from Australia of all places! I also ran into people who were looking for low cost living, most had little interest in Upper Michigan, they were moving where rents were very low....Sawyer looked like one of those places. It was a new to me culture thing I never new existed. Then it all came together , the warnings from local realtors , the crime rate and all that goes with cheep housing. Then I looked at the numbers available from CD.......wow, now I see what all the talk around Marquette was about !

Over the years I noticed , as you stated , it was not Sawyer alone, it was a large area on both sides of 553 and more that I was sure were fallouts from Sawyer and it’s closing.,,,and yes I do live between the ski hill and the Crossroads.......

Marquette county is a great place. I hope to retire there someday. Down here in Iron county we have way more crime. Even famous serial killers.

There are good people everywhere no matter where you go across this landscape known as Upper Michigan. demographics are numbers, facts, what they are not is actual individuals doing good things , it matters not what side of the tracks you live on. ( County rd 480 ) .

I didn't know that about the serial killers. That kind of makes me rethink my statement about crime not being horribly anywhere in the U.P. I had heard there was a serial killer SOMEWHERE in the U.P. (a long time ago), but never really knew where it was. And I didn't know about any others.
Google "iron river serial killer." You can read all about a recent serial killer. We have plenty of homocide to go around in this town.
