Hi All,

We will be heading to the Flint (Lapeer & Imlay City) area end of April mid May 2012. We don't want to be a burden on family, so I am looking into the possibility of staying at a pet friendly extended stay or regular hotel until we decide where to move.

Now I've read and heard that it is possible to negotiate a reasonable monthly rate...I'm hoping this is true...

Anywhere in or around Flint or Detroit would work...

What I'm looking for is a clean, friendly, reasonably priced hotel or extended stay in a safe area for two adults and 1 small (under 15lbs) doggie.

Any recommendations?

Anyone stay at the Red Roof Inn in Flint (G-3219 Miller Road MI 48532)? What did you think?

The reviews on tripadvisor were pretty good and I know the red roof never charges a pet fee...

Thanks for sharing

I would stay as far away from the red roof inn as you can. Stay away from the Miller road area period. When I go there I bring my dog and I always stay at the Holiday Inn at the Gateway center on Hilll road. I go to priceline and only pay 50 a night for the only 3 star hotel in the area thats safe. You want to stay ion the south east side of Flint ie Grand Blanc area if at all possiable. You will have everything right there you need, many restaurants, highways, shopping, and entertainment. I was born and raised there and visit very frequently and must say that Miller road area is VERY unsafe. There are shoootings/stabbings/robberies there all of the time. Although your pup is very cute, not sure if he can help you if any of those things happen. My mother stayed there across the street and was robbed at 2am, we think it was an inside job from the people that work there as the guy was really trying to deter my mother from calling the police which by the way have a 2 day wainting list on the weekends for any response time. If you are really trying to stay under a budget go more east towards lapeer, and trust me when I tell you that you dont want to stay in the Miller road area or Flint for that matter. Be safe and enjoy your time.

I would trust the collective online reviews (there are even some as recent as this month) more than one isolated report. Not sure where the job is - but consider looking at Almont, MI - it's a really quaint neat town if you're considering Imlay City.
