Upcoming move to Adrian. High school preference--Adrian or Tecumseh and why? Initially looking at apartment rental-- nicer areas, newer but not real pricey. Are there "bad areas" of town to stay away from? Or does anyone know of any condos/homes for rent? Any info. on the area would be very helpful~~~~~~Thanks much!!

If I recall correctly, some of the Southeast side was looked down upon a couple decades back. I had also heard negative things (including talk of industrial pollution) in a neighborhood called "Sunnyside", again, decades ago.

Funny story: I was shopping in a store with someone else while looking at Adrian (just out of curiosity). We had asked the cashier about Adrian, and, she said "people around here call it Little Detroit - where do you live?", I said, "Detroit, nobody I know ever called it Big Adrian", good laughter ensued.

I do know that there are also beautiful neighborhoods there, too, both turn of the (last) century and mid-century.

There are defnitely some nice parts of Adrian. "Little Detroit"? Eh, not even close, don't let that scare you. There are some rough parts of the city, but you'll find that anywhere. Adrian is home to two colleges and has many quaint little lake communities in the country surrounding it. I have seen some very nice subdivisions on the outskirts of the city and some beautiful classic Victorian architecture as well. The downtown is refreshingly busy with lots of shops and small businesses and a restored opera house where they put on productions almost weekly. I am not in Adrian all that often, so I can't give you anything much more specific than that, but I wouldn't be upset if I had to move there. Like anywhere else, there is the good and there is the bad. Avoid the bad and you'll be fine.

Default Thanks for responding!!

So nice of you to respond!! Especially since I am not getting responses It is good to hear that you don't feel it is "little Detroit." I agree, basically everywhere has it's good and bad areas of town. Very nice to hear that the downtown/shopping is nice as well. A couple years ago we moved from West Michigan to downstate Illinois. It is remote and we can't wait to get back to Michigan. Also looking forward to living somewhere that you would call "civilization." Thanks so much again !!

All I know is my nephew's in-laws seem to like it. That and when driving by I stopped at the Meijers and the cashier had the absolute coolest tat of Michigan on his inner wrist. I still regret not asking where he got it.
Sorry I don't have better info.
Does Adrian have a facebook page? Or the Adrian schools? Sometimes they have pages, you couldprobably tell a lot
