I use the grass clippings in my vegetable garden, so no waste. I do like the "wildflower" look out in the country or on vast expanses of lawn, and I even like the look on the median and sides of expressways. I think the state (to make this thread relevant!) could save a lot of money by just letting the grass and wildflowers grow there and only cut a small strip next to the road.

But for small suburban lots, I do appreciate a well-manicured lawn or an "English garden" that is adequately maintained. If I lived in a rural area, I wouldn't spend as much time on my lawn. The more you have of something, the less you value it.

I did know a Polish guy in Hamtramck that covered his lawn with that plastic green carpet. I kid you not!
