Disney's new Wizard of Oz movie was supposed to start setting up for filming Monday at the new sound stage in Pontiac. Not sure whether they started on time, but they should be working there now or very soon. It will be good to have another big league movie made in Michigan. Hopefully the soundstage will get other users, it is a really neat project. For some purposes, the best soundstage in the country.

good luck on that. With Rick Snyder taking away tax incentives for the movie industry, that filming WILL be in Kansas. lol

The tax incentives (actually credits) are not going to go away entirely, just reduced. Probably they will end up close to what other states offer. The insane giveway was great (for the movie makers), but not sustainable. If they continue the program to some extent, we will probbaly stillget movie makers because we have build the infrastructure for them. If the tax credits go away altogether, then the studios and other locations will probably become warehouses, or just sit empty. Maybe they can make commercials in some of them.

They going to go where other ("insane") incentives regardless of infrastructure etc. Michigan is a little out of the way from Hollywood and the weather not the greatest most of the time to make it worth their while without a better deal than anyone else. So bye bye film industry.

That was welcome news to Los Angeles-based Raleigh Studios, which has just opened a $76-million studio in Pontiac, Mich., where “Oz” will begin filming in August. The production will fill up most of the studio’s seven stages.

Oz will still get the tax credits. They signed the agreement before the credits were cut. What they will do with that state of the art soundstage in Pontiac once Oz is done is a questiion of concern.

They have been working on the OZ film in pontiac, they just had a full dress rehearsel this past week-end, filming will be soon. Be postive that the film will go without a hitch, and be positive its being done in MI.

My sister had heard about this and responded to some kind of casting call. She was picked to be a munchkin but declined because she works full time and the pay was not worth it. She qualified as a little person and she is like 4'8" or so lol
