This video about floored me! I never knew there were icebergs like this in Lake Michigan. I just thought it was all sheets piled up on top of each other.

Looks like shore ice to me. Shot from that low of a perspective and a wide lens it would tend to make a 2' tall ice shelf along the shore look like it was 5 or 6 feet thick. If the ice is thicker than a couple feet, it would look even higher. I've seen lots of ice shelves along the shore that had places that had collapsed, or broken free and floated out. Doesn't happen every year and I haven't been down to the shore lately to see if it has been building up. I would think it has been though with the cooler temps. I'll take a drive over to the Lake by Ludington State Park tomorrow and see how it has been building up.

Neat video. Don't believe I would be out there on a glorified surf board in water this cold... just not rugged enough I think :0.

That's amazing. Must be from all the wind splashing up water and mist.

Not many people get a chance to see the bergs from that side. You can see the backs of them easily.

This is early in winter. By March, its not unusual to get them 20 foot high or more. The waves form them, then eat at them so they are hollow inside, like half an arch.

Don't walk on the icebergs anywhere near the water, it is very dangerous, pets and people have disappeared after taking a walk on the icebergs. It is extremely difficult to rescue someone without putting someone else in great danger.

Growing up on Little Traverse bay it wasnt unusual to see folks walking out on the ice to explore the ice caves. It as a favorite party place. Wine, cheese, crackers and I wont mention the rest of it.
