Just curious - If you rent an entire house in Michigan are you responsible to pay the taxes on it or is it worked into your rent?

If you are asking if there is a state law that regulates this, I am not aware of it.

Having rented several homes myself over the years, I have never had to pay the property taxes. Most landlords roll that into your rent payment. Utilities can go either way (depending how the property is wired) but taxes should be included. Depending on where you live and the value of the home, you could be looking at $3000 to $4000 a year (or more) in taxes and they continue to go up in some cases, despite the drop in property values.

If this is the deal the homeowner is offering, I would look elsewhere. Plenty of people out there wanting to rent their homes at any price right now.

Also, you don't ask about this, but the homeowner should also pay for the homeowners insurance. Yes, you should have renters insurance for your stuff in the house, and maybe a little liability, but the coverage on the house does not belong on your plate.

The owner of the property (landlord) pays the taxes.

Property taxes are the responsibility of the property owner, and the county will bill and collect from them as needed.
