I don't really know too much about it, but I hear it is a nice small town. It's on lake Michigan, which is great in the summer. I know a very nice person who lives there. I think it would be good.

Depends what you're looking for. If you like outdoors (the lake) and small town feel with modern conveniences driving distances I say go for it. Tourists flood the area in the summer time. The locals kind of stick to their own though.

Short answer: Yes!

I live an hour away in Kalamazoo, but here's what I like about St. Joe

1. Nice lake view. The downtown literally is on lake michigan, and it's a nice, safe downtown too, but the general area isn't overly touristy. You still have other conveniences for the locals

2. The countryside: The area is hilly and full of orchards and farms where you can get all the fresh fruit you want when it's in season.

3. It's also not too far from Chicago if you want to do a day trip. Not that there isn't anything in W. Michigan, but Chicago is a nice place. Berrien County is more in Chicago's sphere of influence.

FYI: Benton Harbor, across from St. Joe, is rougher. I wouldn't live there.
