Hey folks! I need your help! I am going to Medical School in Miami this August and need to start looking for places to live. I need a relatively safe area, with a good bit of square footage, within at a max 15-20 minute commute to the Hospital Downtown...

I know all about Brickell, but my problem there is the price/sq ft ratio. I have 2 cats, and would like a place that is at least 1,000 sqft, yet maybe less expensive than Brickell... and also NOT in the ghetto.

I don't have to live near the "hip" areas, or near the beach. So please take that into consideration.

How bad is the traffic on the Dolphin going from the Airport to Downtown in the morning? How about from Miami Springs? Or... How about from Design District? I was looking at some places right near the airport that looked safe and met my sqft/price requirement.

In closing... max sq. ft., safe area, and 15-20 minute drive to the Medical Campus.

Thanks in advance for any help/advice!

Design District isn't too far from Jackson/UM Med...about a 10 minute drive. There are some apartments right around the medical center where a lot of the med students live. Try asking your admissions director about them.

Desing district is close wont take you longer then 10-15 minutes to get there you do not even need to get on the highway. I would also reccomend downtown besides for Brickell. Also 1,000sq foot apt that is a lot of space for a cheaper place in Miami and for only one person. A decent loft 700sqft will cost about $1,000 a month. Jackson is pretty easy to get to from most places east of it as traffic is going the other way. living North or west of it is when traffic gets really bad.

Congrats by the way UM is a great medical school. Jackson as you know is one of the best hospitals in the US.
