Do young cubans and other hispanics in Miami date and make friends with anglos or do young hispanics stay mostly amongst themselves? I am thinking of relocating to Miami and I would like to know how young hispanics interact with anglos in Miami.

I went to college in the late 80's in Miami and at that time it was very common to see white non-hispanics and Hispanics dating and enjoying the same social circles ... I dated a Cuban - American girl for almost two years in college ... in fact it was more common to see white guys with Latin girls than the other way around . Now there are so few Non-Hispanic whites in Miami Dade County that it is probably much less common to see inter-ethnic dating and strong inter-ethnic social circles .... Broward on the other hand is different ... I took some enrichment courses paid by my company last year at Nova University in Davie and I saw many Anglos and hispanics friendly to each other , in the same social circles and also dating .. so after a long winded response in summary this is much more common in Broward than in Miami Dade .

I don't think it's an issue at all, I mean it is such a diverse place you will have friends and acquaintences that are Black, Haitian, Hispanic and White. Everyone mingles and mixes, it is mostly the new arrivals that stick to their groups out of comfort...

For the record, the younger generation doesn't care either way.

Wildcat

I have a lot of family in Miami.
Some arrived during the 50's and most in 1960-1961-64.
They are in their third generation.
Cubans, the ones arrived during the 50' and 60's, marry Jews and Catholic Americans, Irish, Italians.
Almost all the cases I know, they married Jews, even Orthodox Jews. I know because of issues during Nochebuena, Cuban food is not precisely Kosher. Orthodoxs won't eat lobster either!!
They visit here, and I take the Orthodox husband to a place they serve Lamb, there are no Kosher places around here.
There might be cases where they marry Protestant Anglos, I don't know any, but I bet there are.
I don't know of any case where they married non-Cubans Hispanics, but I bet there are cases.

Interesting posts. After living in SFL for decades we moved to the Midwest. Although there is more scope of diversity in SFL I was very surprised at the amount of mixed races couples I saw. So, after having many Hispanic friends, I think the difference with Miami is that most do not date outside of their race. I think the past few years this has become more pronounced. As to friendships though - you will make tons of friends regardless of race and national origin.

There's no hispanic "race".
There's no "Anglo" race.
Both are cultures.

I gave up trying to get people to understand that here
