My child is a particular elementary school and we are looking at a home outside the boundaries of this school. What are the chances that a transfer would be declined if my child has already been in the school for 2 years? Separately, what are the chances of my younger child would not get approved at this school given the sibling has been there for 2 years?

There are ways to get around this if you have relatives in better school districts or you work closer to one. Without saying too much if your child has the grades , magnectic school have little boundaries.

For me we both worked two Jobs to have first son in private til he was in fifth grade. that was money well spent.

Honestly, there is about a zero chance. There are exceptions as some schools in better areas are listed as alternatives in the School Choice Program. (Example: You live in _______ where your home school has a school choice option. You're given a choice of 5 neighboring schools where you can send your child instead.) In that case, if your child currently attends one of those 5, you would select that school on the application and your child would remain there. Also, I'm aware of a rule wherein should you move during a school year, your child is allowed to continue at their current school for the remainder of that year. Your best chance at staying in the same school is when there are two working parents and the school you'd like them to attend is closer to either parent's job. You'd have to apply for a transfer at your home school.

Public Magnet Schools accept students from anywhere in Miami, and they are the best schools in South Florida.
