From Italy to Miami, FIU student (University, Doral: rental, neighborhood, university)

Hi to everyone,
I am Italian, male, 30 years old, PhD student.

From next 15th September I'll stay for 3 month at Florida International University (Modesto A. Maidique Campus).

My girlfriend will stay a couple of month with me.

Here is what I'm looking for:

- Approx 3 or 4 months rental
- Under $1600-1800 /month
- 1bd
- relatively close to FIU or easily connected (I saw Bus #8)
- safe place to live
- furnished
- internet connection


I was thinking to looking for in brickell or downtown, for most time I’ll be alone in Miami and I’d like to live in a place near the center to enjoy the city.

I speak Spanish.

Any suggestion or help is well accepted.

I did a quick search on trulia.com and see that in Brickell/downtown $1800 is the minimum for a 1 bed, but that is usually a one-year rental contract. You should do a search for temporary rental, it may be higher, more like $2,000 and up.

Also my guess is that the bus will take quite a while to reach FIU, maybe an hour, but others with actual experience may know better.

I would suggest closer to the university or the relatively nearby neighborhood Doral, but if you don't have a car it could be really difficult.

che abbi un buon viaggio! i bus qui sono terribile quindi, non credo che sia una buona idea traslocarti al downtown, e molto lontano dal FIU e il bus prende tempo a arrivare a l'ora giusta. L'ho aspettato mille volte e mille volte sono arrivato in ritardo al lavoro/ a scuola etc etc veramente fastidioso...
