GaWC is not the greatest thing out there but Global Cities 2010: The Rankings | Foreign Policy is pretty good and here Miami is around the same level.

I don't know what criteria they used, but I feel a monkey would have done better job than what they came up with for those so-called lists.

I know, but whatever happened to the Empire - the Eternal City?

Milan is NYC, Rome is more of the DC. Rome does get more tourist of course but Milan is just a bigger place of business. Been to Rome a few times never Milan.

As much as it wasn't my scene, Miami is a major US city. I just wish she'd overcome at least some of her demons that drove me away (Medicare fraud, poor local government, reckless drivers, lack of parks and unofficial segregation).

I agree, when it does. It will Miami will be an even more powerful and true global city.
However on the parks statement there are plenty, Miami is one of the cleanest major cities in the world and two reasons for the "lack of parks". One there is no land to build the parks and two there is not such a great need to parks when you are bordered by two national parks and have beaches and shorelines all around. Could the city use some more parks of course but there really is no where to put them and that is what the beach is for, the everglades, Biscayne National Park, Key Biscayne etc.. Many places to get away from the city a bit.
