I want to move to Miami & I want to know what are the good areas... I live in Buckhead in Atlanta which is like the "good part" or some call it "The Beverly Hills of Atlanta". I don't want to be in a really expensive area nor do I want to be in the hood! The highest I am willing to pay for rent is $1,300. Could I get something nice for that?? Maybe hardwood floors, or stainless steel appliances? Also if I could be near a beach that would be awesome!

Not so sure about hardwoods and fancy new appliances, but you can probably get a decent place on the island for that much. Living on the island is most advisable. The mainland is heavy on social problems. Try searching South Beach, North Beach, Surfside, Normandy, Sunny Isles etc - all those beach towns. Use Google maps to find a town near where you are going to work.

Alternatively, you may be able to find something in the Brickell area of Miami which is also nice. Others can tell you more about the mainland. I say choose the island or wish you listened to me later.

Try this one for example:

It's fabulous, you'll love it. All those areas above are MB (south Beach + North Beach = MB) or little beach towns just north. MB is an island, 2.5 mile safely out to sea from the madness of Miami. The link is one of the many many big condo/apt building all over the city.

Here's some pix:

Be aware Miami is a crazy place - gorgeous but crazy. I don't know Atlanta so I can't compare but many people find Miami quite challenging. What's your plan for work, is that already lined up?

There's a lot more pics in the photo thread.

It's all about location, location, location. The good ones are just going to cost you more. Plus, remember that Florida doesn't have an income tax but really high property tax for investment real estate. So, any rental you will come across will have those taxes built into the lease price by your landlord.
Keeping those two facts in mind might help you better understand why the rental prices are higher than in states where the tax structure is different.

I am in South Beach and totally recommend it. But, try to stay on the west side where there are clearly more locals than tourists. It's also more geared toward locals with nearby stores, services, etc.

For $1,300 per month you can with out a doubt get a decent condo or townhome. If I were you I would move to Broward, it's less hectic with all of the same amenities.

South Beach with all the glitz and glam can sometimes be headache due to the traffic jams. I've lived in Buckhead before and the closest thing I would recommend is these location which are close to the beach Sunny Isles, Aventura. Away from the beach ...Coral Gables, Pembroke Pines, West of Miramar near I-75 is the safest. Make sure you purchase a sunpass, it will save you time and disappointment when driving on the highways. The good thing about Miami is there's many ways to get a location, so get familiar with your routes. REMEMBER when pumping your gas at the gas station to take your purse with you...Miami is all fun in the sun, but there's alot of hoodlums out here who would love to take ya sh*t! A mall thats similar to Lenox in Miami is Aventura...Phipps plaza (Bal Harbor Shoppes). Just be very aware of your surroundings and you will be fine. Hopes this helps you out!
