Starting this week, teens hoping to hit Aventura Mall on a Friday or Saturday night will have to bring along a companion -- their mom or dad.

I will not go to that mall anyway...shouldn't kids be home studying, or working, or something other than hanging at the mall?

Finally! When we moved to MN we noticed this policy in place at Mall of America. We thought it was a great idea. It works very well --but then this is Minnesota. . .

Their only solution is moving the mall, already happened in the past with the Omni Mall.

I guess part of the problem is that some of the parents are not supervising their children, because they are out working two jobs to make ends meet. And the other parents, may have substance abuse problems, or are too depressed by this whole economy to bother with taking care of their kids..What is with families now...That kids can just be out rampaging without supervison...

I would think by the age of 13, a kid would not need supervised to the point they would cause trouble if they didn't have an adult around.

The being responsible and conducting yourself in a civilized manner attitude should be instilled in a kid much earlier. A parent cannot just wake up one day when their kid is 16 and start being a parent because the police just dropped him off.

There will always be trouble makers, but I have watched malls in the places I live over the years (among other places), go down hill because of these people. Teens get in their and the gang/mob mentality starts with the influential ones usually being the bad seeds, and the rest of them following. It does not help that the only thing they are raised with are shows that demonstrate that being in a bad mood constantly is some sort of "cool" thing to do.

Where I use to live, one major mall closed and another is below 60% capacity now because of this. The one still open enacted this policy and things got better right away.

Shop owners should realize that teens do not spend near the amount of money adults do, many adults do not want to come to a mall and be hampered by loud, obnoxious teens thinking they are on an MTV reality show, complete with all the bickering, arguing, yelling, and want to be gangster thug mentality.
