Are there any colleges in South Florida that the classes are in Spanish? I have a friend whose brother is coming from a Latin country to live here but knows no English. He just finished high school and wants to enroll into a college or university as soon as he gets here. Any help?

yes 4 months or less if they watch American TV and not Mexican telenovelas. Johnlee your cousin should visit these pages:

MDC Adult Education ESOL
Inglés sin Barreras El Video Maestro de Inglés Conversacional
Learn English Online: Free English Courses To Improve Your English

Youtube has videos to learn english, the local library has free courses, so no excuse my friend, and tell your cousin welcome to America, in ENGLISH OF COURSE.

Thanks, I just wanted to know for sure.

And that person isn't related to me at all LOL, I'm just helping out a friend.

One last question, if you guys know, is there college classes or programs for people that don't know perfect English? Like an ESOL program but in college.

In many communities there are ESOL courses for all levels at both high schools and colleges, as well as universities. You usually get what you pay for: at high schools usually free, at community colleges a small fee, at universities tuition-like prices for full immersion (usually six hours a day).

Apart from ESOL, you can find classes in Spanish in the adult education section of Miami-Dade Community College, like basic computer and software use and other such practical courses. MDCC sends out a thin, newspaper-like catalogue two or three times a year (fall, winter, and summer sessions) to every household in the county. Or just go to the MDCC website.

Good Luck!

Wow some of these responses were down right nasty.

There are classes offered in English in Latin American univeristies and this doesn't threaten the integrity or identity of the country, so why would it do so here? What a shame that no one else has made a rebuttal to these posts, especially in Miami, a city that has such a heavy Spanish speaking culture.

Now, to answer the OP's question, no. However, there are Spanish coureses in Spanish and Interpreting and Translating courses in Spanish. Think also along the lines of Spanish Literature, Spanish Second Language courses for educators and things of that nature. FIU has many as does Miami Dade...but as for getting a degree or studying basic run of the mill classes the answer is no. However, many professors are bilingual if that makes a difference, although the courses would not be conducted in Spanish.

I received Accounting, Auditing and Finance classes in Spanish working towards my AA degree at the MDCC New World Center (Wolfson). Not at their building on Downtown, but on the building they have on 8 ST and 27 AVE. Classes were in Spanish, but using regular English language textbooks. That was way back, so I assume they must have many more classes now.

Miami was the first city in the US to impart college classes in Spanish as early as 1962.

The language of business is the language of customers and clients. Since I don't think that you vote much with your dollars, nobody will speak Poke County English to you.
