I used to live in Ajijic. Loved it and the weather. Housing is not cheap, but not too expensive, eating out is cheap compared to the US.
Good health care, and Guadalajara is only 45 minutes away.
Looked at a real estate ad for the Lake Chapala area.
One home was priced at $125,000.
Same kind of homes (built wall to wall) here near Rosarito/TJ for mexicans only were going for $35,000with a few less sq ft living space. (840 sq ft two story)
They are low priced for the locals mainly from over populated TJ.
Noticed that the homes I looked at were all owned by Mexican Nationals from what I could tell.
Where I'm at here in Baja my sub division has a few homes built a few yrs ago and still empty waiting for the mkt to increase in price.

I used to live in Puerto Vallarta and visited Ajijic, Lake Chapala & Guadalajara. LOVED them all! I would love to live in such a tranquil place as Ajijic, yet be that close to a major metropolitan area like Guadalajara. Sounds like a wonderful retirement to me!

You must be refering to InfoNavit housing that is available all over Mexico. I don't believe they can be sold new to foriegners but can be resold in older subdivisions. I really doubt a 125k house in Ajijic would compare to an InfoNavit.
I live on the west end of Lake Chapala and am enjoying the weather ... after 5 years on the beach
