Hi all,
Does anyone know if there is a common problem with head gaskets or engine in the '95 E320? I thought they are generally regarded to be good cars (last W124 year for E-class) and wanted to know if I should avoid a used one that has recent head gasket replacement.
Thanks,
N
Replacing a head gasket on a 25 year old car is to be expected, regardless of brand or motor. I’ve seen many a Honda Civic far younger that needed a new head gasket. It’s not a major job. It’s literally just a few bolts on the top of the engine, lift up the head cover, pull out the old rubber gasket and install the new, and put it back together. It goes along with say ball joints wearing out, motor mounts wearing out, etc...
The M104 engine is a good one that was used by Daimler for many years. One that is maintained according to the schedule should see at least 300,000 miles before any major repair. A head gasket replacement is not a major repair.
My M103 engine '89 coupe has 217,000 miles on it when I sold it.
