As I mentioned in my last thread about accounting firms, I am considering relocating to Memphis. From my own explorations on Craig's List and Google Maps, Memphis looks like it's a single-family/detached home type of city. I'm not really much of a fan of that to be quite honest. My ideal home is more like a Baltimore rowhouse. Of course, I realize I am unlikely to find a rowhouse-like structure in Memphis.

Am I likely to find much in the way of 2-3 bedroom condos in the Midtown and Downtown areas? How about in the suburbs?

I did find a few factory lofts on Craig's List. Those intrigue me, as well. How common are those in Memphis?

Thanks ahead of time.

Ah, thanks! At least that proves to me there are condos and the like in Memphis. Craig's List wasn't turning up much, but it's not always that representative of what's out there.

All of downtown is condo. The Island has houses, but the downtown core is over-flowing with empty condos....they can't get rid of them!

I live downtown (and I'm from Baltimore, so I know exactly what you're talking about!) and it's condo central down here. Go to Downtown Condo Connection and you'll see every single condo for sale downtown. My husband and I used them to find our condo and they're great!

Condos are concentrated in the Downtown and Midtown areas. There are a few condo developments in Bartlett, but they look/feel more like apartment complexes. There's a large recently converted apartment complex in Germantown that's pretty decent and in a good neighborhood. And there are some condo-ish patio homes in Collierville not far from Schilling Farms; they are nice and roomy, but are way overpriced for what they are (imo).

The converted warehouses Downtown are nifty, and some folks really enjoy living in them. I like visiting friends there, but I don't think I would want to live in one. The high ceilings, exposed brick, and echos don't give me that 'welcome home' feel I like. It may work for you, though. Different strokes.
