Do you think it's silly to do background checks on people in the interview process ? Too bad if you do.

I personally don't look up people's mortgage info. It feels like it's now becoming a way to look down on someone financially if they didn't put a huge deposit down or have huge payments? I dunno. But looking up someone's criminal record and seeing they have a previous arrest or something is kind of the same thing. Either way looking up things like this is a way to judge them

I do google searches on people in terms of their home or what they do for work. Sometimes you find nuggets on people doing this - you might discover they had an OUI , drug arrest or were in trouble at work and it went public.

You can say someone's mortgage info is not anyone else's business but it's there for people to look into just like a past arrest or something.

Im kind of surprised someone's mortgage info is public...but it is.

I can't believe the outrage folks have over this....did they really not realize that all this info is public record? Helpful hint-- if you're so concerned about someone looking up your properties or mortgages, set yourself up with an LLC and take title that way. Makes it harder, but not impossible, for folks to link you personally to specific properties.

I also think it becomes a habit. It's just so easy to do...that why wouldn't you do it? Thank whoever created the internet for that.

I don't blame you....MA home prices tend to have a way of leaving people speechless!

Exactly, and as you said you can find out nuggets. So something that may have left you scratching you're head about someone (maybe why they act the way they do, did something , or whatever the case may be)....once you read about those nuggets, there's often some clarity and it all starts to make sense!

Thankfully there are lots of things you can't look up on the internet about people - medical info (although people share a lot of their health issues on social media these days), what's in their bank account, what's in their 401k, etc

I think on social media some folks share health info if they're looking for support from others who have experienced the same condition to help with managing their journey. I think there are dedicated pages for support groups for various diseases, conditions, etc. I totally get why people would share stories and info in those cases.

I'm sure. I'm just saying that I find out a lot about people and their kids' health issues because of what they post on social that I otherwise never would have known.
