No, I didn't say that. People on this board seem to think that everyone can WFH for some reason. Most jobs don't even involve a desk and computer. You guys are living in your own little bubble.

If someone is a nurse, plumber, physician, Cop, fire fighter, bartender, then no they can't work from home. We are talking about jobs where people go into an office and sit at a computer for most of the day. Even if they are having meetings those are meetings that could be done virtually. Whether they think it's easier to be in the office and conduct meetings face to face doesn't mean they still couldn't be done virtually.

who cares?

obviously the poster is referring to knowledge workers. pointing out that most jobs cannot be done remotely adds nothing to the conversation. ya... we got it, people have to physically make/do things. everyone above the age of 9 understands this, and yet no one cares.

Because this forum often presents WFH as a solution to all our housing and traffic problems, without understanding that all those people jamming the roads and commuting 1.5 hours each way are not doing it out of enjoyment...or due to "mean bosses".

I think you underestimate how many people in the area have the type of job where they go into an office and just need a computer to get their jobs done.

I get the feeling that some people like to think they are so important that they need an office but they don't.

I've already said there are a lot of jobs where people can't work from home.

As I said it is my impression that most of these jobs that "can" be done remotely, already are to some degree.

Many are hybrid at this point but could be fully remote. Some people in these types of jobs were WFH before covid. I personally had a job that could have been WFH before covid but the culture was that everyone be there in the office because face to face time is 'valuable'. Covid happened and people realized jobs could be done at home and had to be done at home for a while.

Remember that a 20%, 15% or even 10% drop in vehicle volume on the roads during rush hour would be beneficial to those who have to be physically present to do their jobs. It isn't just the WFH crowd that derives a benefit from WFH.

You really think that 10-20% of those vehicles on the road at rush hour are making unnecessary commutes???

but honestly many are doing it because of 'mean bosses'. My friend works in marketing at a pharma place and she said they're being called back to be in at least 3 days a week. There's no reason for it other than that is what someone else wants.
