You and I are in the same boat. I am not a casino person at all and find it depressing. But the people who are are diehards. I definitely think the people who are going to be more inconvenienced are the people who live around the casino and have to deal with it all.

Also, the place looks wild: https://www.boston.com/news/local-ne...low%3Afacebook

Aren't there enough casinos now? Seems like every city has one. I don't get it really.

Theyre expecting high roller and Older folks to take the Orange Line???( I think Wynn-like all of us- was banking on the new Orange Line fleet to be up and running by now) to then get shuttled to a casino where they may be paying $700 a night... to overlook a sewage treatment plant and an old factory?

Im not anti-casino but I dont see how this works out. Theyre charging you to take those busses from NH CT RI MA, then you lose money there with no complimentary packages. Then they stop serving drinks at 2AM???? thats NUTS for a 5 star world class resort casino., even if the 'active gamblers' can get drinks till 4AM. Thats absolutely nuts considering they spent over 3 billion on a casino.

How many people will want to endure the traffic or the T, or the boat ride along the mystic in bad weather? The T WILL breakdown in the winter, and some waterways will freeze. They say the Everett Somerville Charlestown area can expect up to 55k more jobs by 2040 and hundreds of thousands more commutes.

The New England market has:

Springfield, MGM
Plainridge Park
Foxwoods
Mohegan Sun
Twin River
Empire City, MGM (Yonkers NY, its a factor for SWCT)
and now Encore

Soon/Possible:

Windsor Casino
SE Mass Casino
Bridgeport Casino
NYC Casino (which would zap up nearly all the international and high rollers from Encore)

from Worcester thats up to 11 Casinos within a 3 hour drive by 2030.
Windsor is pretty much canceled. Se mass isn't anything. The wamps are broke and region 3 is hardly mentioned.
Bridgeport isn't happening either.

I'm not really part of the casino crowd. My last trip to one in CT was 10 years ago.

But I'll try out Encore. I just want to wait for it to die down a bit as I'm one of those "I'm not riding the T I have a car" type of people.

I wouldn't I don't understand why someone would be a part of that crowd. How can you enjoy playing craps or doing anything else there when you have 50 people standing behind you waiting for you to finish

In my experience, it doesn't matter. The people that will be there at those hours aren't there to drink.

Eh. Sometimes it's more like people watching. Downtown spring looks more like Brooklyn now. one guy got kicked out in the first week for bringing in a large Anaconda I know that because I saw it right in front of me. I saw another guy show up in a kit car that look like he was driving a banana. A few months ago I saw an Elvis impersonator although none were scheduled. It's also nice to have a place that's secure and you can relax.
Sometimes I go to mgm to read, libraries don't allow much for food and I can overhear a band.

Well considering it's Boston and they would be the only game in town, I'd imagine that changing.

I was surprised to find out the encore has no pool (outdoor or indoor). Even less reason to shell out $500+ for a room there. The pools are the highlights of the Vegas properties. The season would be shorter here but I think it was a huge miss.
