Hi Everyone,
I am new to this forum, but am excited to join.
I am considering moving to Massachusetts in a couple of years. I am an extremely active older person (61) looking for a place that is not too far from the ocean and has a vibrant arts community. Of course, I am looking for a place that is not horribly expensive. I am well-educated and am interested in finding other like-minded people (liberal, creative, collaborative). This is all very general off course, but I am wondering if there are any areas that strike you as possibilities. I would like to begin my search and start going to places to see how they feel.
Thanks,
Marjorie1956

When you state not horribly expensive how much were you planning to spend?

It's expensive if you're looking for a decent stand alone home, but you can find a nicely updated 2 bdr condo/townhome for <$500k right in the heart of downtown.

Newburyport is a great option. You can also check out Amesbury which is right next door to NBPT and it's less expensive.

I was going to say Newburyport too. Amesbury is cheaper. Salisbury also, its coming up in the world so is cheap now, but might be a good investment if you are buying. Both are adjacent to Newburyport.7

I'd consider Gloucester, Rockport and Salem as well. Duxbury has the Art Complex museum which may have a community around it. New Bedford is another possibility, and less expensive than nearer boston. NB is also close to the Providence arts scene.

Don't forget Beverly. Right next to Salem and a little bit quieter.

Yep, depends on what the OP means by expensive.

Marblehead, Gloucester, Rockport is a good suggestion, Newburyport, also can consider Portsmouth is open to NH.

Best of luck

Look at Portsmouth NH also Portland ME. Set the ocean aside and go for a big lake, look at Burlington VT, Lake Champlain.
