I am planning to move to MA. I will work from home and I will be visiting some customers in the Hopkinton, & Framinghan area (maybe 2 days a week). I would like to find a town east of Boston where I can live with my family. I have a wife + 3 kids (9, 4, 2 yrs old) so the school distric must be a good one. Can anyone recommend me a good town where I can rent a house? I'm only planning to be in MA for 2 yrs Max. How about settling in north CT?

Also, do you know of any good catholic schools in the area?

The first town due east of Boston is very nice, but it's in Portugal. So I figure you mean west.

This is hard to do without more specifics about how much you can spend and how big/new a house you want. Presumably enough for a family of 5 to fit comfortably. There are many towns along the Mass. Pike and 495 with pretty easy access to Framingham and Hopkinton that have good schools. Off the top of my head Natick, Hopkinton, Holliston, Southboro, Shrewsbury, Grafton, Harvard, Littleton. A town like Thompson, CT, the very NE corner of CT, is much more rural and a bit under an hour to Framingham without traffic. There are plenty of Catholic schools in the area but I don't have much personal knowledge of which ones are best.

St John's HS in Shrewsbury has a good reputation, as does Hudson Catholic HS. Perhaps someone else on the forum can speak to good Catholic schools for your younger children.

Where will you be commuting to on the days you're not visiting customers and what are you looking for in terms of a hometown?

St. Joe's in Needham for elementary and middle school. Bishop Feehan has a good repuation for high school but is down in Attleboro. Xaverian is in Westwood--boys school with good rep. Ursiline Academy is the "sister" school. There are also some very pricey Catholic schools: St. Seb's; Montrose come to mind. Don't know if Nobles is Catholic or just pricey private.

Hopkinton has a decent school system from what I hear. Don't know about rentals. I'd have to say Holliston schools are probably ok, as are Naticks. Framingham schools aren't that great. Needham is pricey but the school district is excellent. Same goes for Westwood. If you're renting, perhaps you can get a decent deal in those pricier towns. Also check Wellesley, Dover and Sherborn for rentals that might be affordable for you. All 3 towns have excellent school systems.
