Hi All, I'll be spending a week in Cape Cod with my family. We're staying in Harwich and are looking for any recommendations of what to see, do, eat in the area. What are the must sees in the cape? Thank you!
Depends on what you like to do I guess but for my money, Provincetown is the most fun and bumpin' town. You can do a whale watch or get on a fishing boat (tons of fun), do a dune tour in a buggy, catch one of a numerous amount of shows, just walk up and down Commercial St (make sure to stop into the Army Navy store), etc. Plenty of places to eat in town - Lobster Pot is an icon there of course.
I also likethe drive in movie theater in Wellfleet.
Welcome to the Cape
I second what G-fused recommended. This week at the drive in is Planes and that Percy Jackson movie.
Provincetown is a real "Artsy" community which is another way of saying it is gay friendly. I think it is terrific but some folks don't so I thought I might warn you. It is a great place to people watch.
If you go you can park at the Pilgrim Monument for $10 and you get one free ticket to go up in the tower. Very historic and a great view. Whale watches are great.
Be sure to stop off at the National Seashore for a look at the open Atlantic, Marconi beach is nice.
Also do rent bikes and take a ride along the rail trail which goes from Dennis to Wellfleet with a branch off to Chatham from the bicycle rotary. The nicest stretch in my opinion is from the rotary which is in Harwich and then to Nickerson. Park at Nickerson and you can rent bikes there.
If you are into fishing you can take a charter out of Rock Harbor in Orleans. Do check out the sunsets there and at low tide you can walk for 1/2 mile out onto the Brewster flats.
All along Rt28 in the Yarmouth area are fun family things like mini golf, a inflatable park etc..
Go to Chatham and stroll the main street and stop at the candy manor for a treat. Do check out light house beach or take a seal tour maybe you will see a Great White shark.
If you have seen it and done it all on Cape you can always catch a ferry out of Hyannis or Woods Hole in Falmouth and check out either Nantucket or Marthas Vineyard for a day.
Of course there are always the beaches.
Have FUN
Check out Bass River Cruises, in West Dennis Cape Cod... kayaking or a cruise in a flat-bottom boat on the Bass River... lots of fun
Also couple of lighthouses in Provincetown worthy of a visit
You might be interested in the Cape Cod Central Railroad... there are 4 or 5 different train excursions, and there is the Bourne Scallop Festival (Sept 20-22) https://www.capetrain.com/trips.html
I was thinking the very same thing! Or from the North we would go down to the Cape!
or even down the Cape. (Whatever you do, don't make the mistake my friend's out of state friend did recently--he asked if they could go to the Cod.) You can say the Cape.
There are seal watch boat tours out of Chatham that are fun. We took our grandkids a few weeks ago and saw a lot of seals and got some good information that raised our awareness level regarding seals. It was a lot of fun. There's also Captain Kid's Fishing Adventures out of Harwich. We did this last year and every kid on the boat caught many a fish. It's really hands on and lots of fun. A lot depends on whether your kids are little or teens as to what will entertain them.
There is summer entertainment at the Melody Tent in Hyannis. I believe most of them play at "The Music Circus" in Cohasset and then are scheduled into Hyannis.

Be aware Provincetown is a gay mecca with 90% or better of the population openly and very demonstrably gay (in public). I would NOT advise you to visit there if you have younger children, especially in the evening.
