We have a summer home in Harwich and love the area! Harwich has the Cape's largest lake (pleasant lake also called Long Pond) which is beautiful and gr eat for kids yet also has wonderful beaches 4 miles into Harwichport (bank St beach and Howe st beach). Harwichport has Main St for shopping and dining and beaches too. Great breakfast at Bonatts or Ruggies and great brew and burgers at the Hot Stove Saloon. Drive to neighboring Chatham which is beautiful with wonderful shopping and dining on main st.

I 2nd the lobster pot in p-town. The fishing can be excellent too - check out reel-time saltwater forum on-line. Get a guide and you can catch bass, blues and bonita. Wellfleet oysters are awesome....damn just going to the national seashore is a treat where you can beachcomb for hours. Hike the dunes out by Race Point. You can go exploring too but Rt 6 can be a clusterphruck at peak hours.
