My husband excepted a job in Framingham (junction of routes 90 & 9). We prefer coastal towns, but the commute from Framingham to those areas seems a near impossibility. Are there any towns we can consider without having a bear of a commute? I want to make sure we don't overlook something before making a final decision on staying in the Metro West area. As a side note, because we like water access, Harvard is on our list of towns because it has a nice lake, an easier commute and somewhat rural character. Thank you!

I think driving to/from the north shore every day would be tough.

How about Hopkinton? There are two lakes in town and you'd be very close to Framingham. It's not the same as living by the ocean but might be a good tradeoff.

A commute from Hingham (south shore) to Framingham will take you about 75 minutes. on a good day. the problem coming from the south shore is at the 128 split in canton/dedham. that can take a good 15 minutes of not-moving traffic to suffer through and will probably be the worst part of the drive. he'd have to then get on 9 west, and once you're on 9 west, you're doing a "reverse commute." Going home, again, the 128 split in dedham is a disaster. and worse than morning traffic.

However- 128 has had a lot of construction the past few years to add an extra lane, and eliminate driving in the break down lane in rush hour. Once that is completed I think a commute from the south shore will be more feasible.

Thank you for the advice. Sounds like staying in the Metro West area will save many headaches in the long run. Traffic will only continue to get worse. We will look again at Hopkinton.
