We will be looking to rent a 3+ br house/townhouse (1600+ sqft, <$2300mo) for about a year. My husband's office will be in Burlington- but he only has to go in a couple of days a week and can handle a bit of a commute on those days (45 mins? doesn't have to be during rush hour). Would like small town atmosphere, family friendly, will need things to do with preschooler and toddler. Where should we look?

In this thread I ended up saying that Burlington itself seems pretty decent, and nobody disagreed.

But I don't know whether the town has the kind of home you want at the price you want.

As Amontillado said about Burlington, I'm not sure what is available in some of these towns in the way of the kind of housing you want at the price you want, but Bedford is a possibility for a suburban town very near Burlington. Arlington is worth a look if you'd prefer more of a mix of suburban and a bit urban. Wakefield is a possibility if you'd like a suburban town with a fairly substantial downtown for a small suburban town, as well as a commuter rail connection to Boston. Chelmsford is worth a look if basic pleasant suburbia would appeal to you.

There is a company there I have been talking with and they had just made an offer to a guy the day before I started a conversation with them and thought by some chance it might have been your husband. Crazy coincidence if so.

Solutions architect?

Wilmington has a very affordable and convenient preschool program called CARES. Most towns don't have anything close to it. My co-workers complain about childcare in their towns, and I just smile
