Greetings,

We are thinking of purchasing a home in Needham in the next year or so, but are concerned about the commute. What is it like in the a.m and after work? We commute into the Seaport area of Boston. Thoughts on best hours to leave and routes to take would be helpful. Also, how is the commuter rail? We would ideally like to find a place within walking distance of the commuter rail. Right now our commute from Watertown in the morning takes around 45 minutes if we leave at 7:45 or 8:00 a.m.

Thanks!

Mass pike is usually fine if you get on by 7 am-ish. There is a huge difference between traffic volume at 7 am vs. after 7:30 am. Can't comment on evening since traffic can be heavy or light randomly no matter what the time is.

Needham is one of the better commute towns (Rt 9, mass pike, 95) and commuter rail (no experience there). I've taken 95N to Mass Pike, or 95N to 16 Exit to Mass Pike, or 95N to Grove Exit to Mass Pike. The latter 2 saves you a toll.
