I'm in the process of planning to build on to my son's home in Woodbine, Howard County to make it a 2-family dwelling. This requires a zoning variance, so need to get past the county first.

We are working on concept plans, and now need to find a builder who would work with us to estimate costs so we can make any necessary adjustments before requesting county hearing. Then, build the addition when we are approved.

How can I locate a good builder who does this kind of work?

Any good input much appreciated. If it comes to it, I could general and run subs, but would rather avoid those headaches if we can afford it.

I would recommend Catonsville Custom Builders. They built a lot of Cattail Creek. My husband has been friends with them for years and I have seen a lot of their work. They are definitely more of the "upscale" type. They are not going to be interested in cutting corners; they are more into the "unique" touches like pressed tin ceilings and recessed lighted areas built in.

Thanks for the response.

I guess I should fill out my info a little. I'm not going to be able to go "upscale". The whole idea here is to arrange to have a home I can afford to retire in. So, it would be a builder that would take on a large addition/small home kind of project.

This is going to be a basic structure of about 1800 sq ft, + two single garages.

Sorry I ain't rich.
