We're moving from Boulder, Co to Annapolis area. Want good schools, access to restaurants, shopping, and a very nice house. Any suggestions? We've heard Severna Park is very nice. Is it very sububan or are there things to do?

If price isin't an issue, Arnold, Severna Park, or Annapolis (Cape St. Clair/St. Margarets area) all have very good schools. I wouldn't go north of Severna Park, starts to get too close to Baltimore and in my opinion a lesser quality of life. Also Davidsonville and south if you are looking for a home with land. If you don't mind the bridge you can move to the Eastern Shore and save some money, relatively speaking.

Annapolis would offer the most in terms of activities and restaurants. Severna Park is suburban, but it does have good schools.

I second Severna Park, Arnold. St Margarets area is nice a little more rural.

Default swimming?

Do people swim/wade/kids play on any of the SP river beaches or is the water just for boating?

It depends what Severna Park neighborhood you live in. You of course have to live in the neighborhood to swim at their beach.
