Can anyone recommend town house neighborhoods that are safe and have good schools in Columbia?
I'm finding that the townhouses are usually in the shady parts of Columbia with bad or mediocre schools.
I appreciate any help!
Ed

Hmmm....I live in a town home in one of those "bad" areas of Columbia. Despite having "crime" and poor people, the medium income in my immediate area (within a one mile radius) is near $75K. Within a five mile radius the medium income jumps to around $95K. Hardly a ghetto.

The local high school, which is about a 5 minute walk from my home, seems pretty good. As far as I know it is very well received and is well respected locally.

Most of the crime here are burglaries followed by general theft and then robberies. Murders, shootings, arson, assaults, etc. are low-to-(almost)-nonexistent.

If you want the safest w/town homes, probably most of Kings Contrivance.

I don't mean to be offensive by my post. I'm just going based on crime reports and school ratings. I've had my house burglarized and almost had a home invasion in my previous state. I'm trying to avoid similar situations.
Looking to buy a townhouse for $280k or less.
Thanks for the input!

In my opinion, all the Columbia schools are decent and the area is safe for the most part. What are the "mediocre schools" the homes were in the district in for? I can give you more information on that school district if you want. From what I know, Wilde Lake and Hammond High Schools are considered the "mediocre schools" of Howard County. If those are the schools the houses are in the district for, I would not worry actually. Hammond and Wilde Lake are both decent schools and are ranked above average. If you still do not wish to reside in the attendance areas for those schools, I will list the most respected Howard County and Columbia area schools:

Columbia:
Howard High School
Atholton High School
Long Reach High School

Around the area with affordable prices:
Reservoir High
Marriotts Ridge High
Glenlg High
