Edgewater, Mayo, Deale or Shadyside are excellent choices. They are just south of Annapolis and have good to great schools.

I have a huge question for you though. Just what kind of house are you looking for at $250k to $300k?

In those areas I named this is typical for that little bit of money.

Richard Martin,

What's wrong with that house you posted? Why would you have such a snotty attitude toward the price range that someone can afford?

When you live somewhere where $250k to $300k will buy significantly more house you tend to look at houses like the one in the link for that phenomenal amount of money as a rip off. It takes a lot of money to buy a nice house in Maryland, there are no two ways about it. That house is located in Woodland Beach where spanish is becoming a second language to most residents.

Where I live now, $255,000 will buy houses like this all day long.

Not exactly. We moved to NC from Montgomery County. Many friends from MoCo are retiring or moving to the North Carolina coast. I agree that the housing in NC is significantly cheaper and better.

... and what, exactly, is wrong with the house you posted? That's a beautiful house and I would love living in that home!

Nothing's really wrong with that house but sticker shock when moving to MD happens to a lot of people.

I must have spent too long in this state because $250,000 doesn't seem unreasonable at all for that home.

It probably isn't, depends on where it is, but in much of the country $250K will get you (plus acreage) what $800K does here. Wher I grew up in western PA that house would go for anywhere between $40K-$60K.
