Good point! We bought 48 acres in the middle of nowhere for $19,000, 17 years ago. We just built a cabin on the top of a big hill - it has a view of Flagstaff Lake with Mount Bigelow behind it. Incredibly beautiful! Most of the lumber for the cabin came from trees cut on our property that were dried for a year and then milled on-site. Our builder charged us only $4,000 to do that, so we figure the land already paid for itself. We also take up a trailer each time we go and bring back a big load of wood for our wood boiler at our primary residence. We will probably also have someone do some harvesting on the lot at some point. The lot is located off of logging roads. Too remote for some people, but perfect for us. I would definitely do it all over again.
