I'm looking to adopt a little kitten, does anyone know of little kittens available in the near future? I'm looking to adopt a very young 5 or 6 weeks old kitten. I love when they are really small but from a shelter I can only get them at 8 weeks old, and hate to miss those 3 weeks that I can enjoy the little one if I get it from an outsider. If you know if any kittens that will become available within a few months please let me know, I will be adopting one, and the latest that I will wait will be mid August, 2010. if I don't find one outside, then I will be going through a shelter.
Thank you

It's illegal to give away or sell a pet under eight weeks of age. You probably shouldn't be asking this on a public forum.

As an animal lover, I feel I need to speak up. It's very unhealty to take kittens from their mother before 8 weeks of age. (The reason animal shelters don't allow it.) Kittens need that time to mature and wean. Can I ask what happens to the kitten when it's no longer small and playful? Cats can live well past 15 years. Getting a 5 week old kitten is just a bad idea...

I adopted my cat through the local shelter late last summer. She was nine weeks old and as she was a "spitfire" less likely to be adopted. She and our small dog are best friends. They play and sleep together. I originally intended for her to be an "outside kitty" but, I'm afraid she may get snatched up by a predator out here and, I like her far more than I thought I would. The adoption fee included the spaying cost. I'm a big believer in spaying/nuetering of pets. They live longer healthier lives and, there are too many animals that don't have a home. Eight weeks is plenty young enough.

In all 50 states, kittens and puppies alike have to be 8 weeks old before being offered for sale or adoption. This is for the health of the baby animal as well as the mother of said animal.

I adopted two kittens from Craigslist and a puppy from Uncle Henry's and they bring me laughs and love every day. However never take an animal from it's mother before it is 8 weeks old. I believe it is against the law as well as not being in the best interest of the baby.
