We had a hard time moving our Golden Retriever to Maine. We put him down this afternoon, but the veterinarians here were wonderful in helping us. Southern Maine is truly the kingdom of dogs. There are more specialty dog supply stores here than anywhere we've ever lived (and we've lived all over the country). Mainers love their dogs and we love Mainers for making this very painful transition a little bit easier for us.

Dear Sunday1,
I am so very sorry for your loss; what a difficult but compassionate decision you had to make. My dear little 4 year old papillion passed away about 18 months ago. I still miss him, and dream about him at night. The wonderful vets and staff that helped us here were just so supportive. The people of Maine are a blessing in so many ways...
you will be in my prayers...
S

Sunday, I too am sorry for the loss of your dog. I think all of Maine is a "doggy" place and I know our two Saint Bernards love it here.

One of them is a old dog as well, and has slowed down noticeably the last couple of months. We have only had her a few years (when she was "retired" from a puppy mill, poor thing) but it was wonderful to see her frolic like a pup in the fall weather on her first trip to Maine from NC.

The house and hearts are always quite empty when we have to say goodbye. Hugs to you...

Oh Sunday. I'm so sorry for your loss. I lost my 12 year old female Corgi slightly more than two weeks ago. It's very hard. They certainly do become members of our family with each of them having their own unique personalities that endear them to us. May you find comfort in your many wonderful memories of times shared and in knowing you gave your pupper a good home full of love and affection. He knew he was loved. {{{Comforting Hugs}}}

Default condolences to you

Dear Sunday,

Thank you for your compassionate note about the loss of your best friend. I send you & your family a warm hug. Golden ones are especially dear, as I'm sure your guy was. Maine is a special place for dogs & their people, and I hope he was able to enjoy his time here.

For all of us who have lost a best friend...I remember an epigraph from a short story written by a Maine author. The story is about the constancy of love - how dogs have mastered this, but how we humans have much to learn. The epigraph to the story:

"The one good place to bury a dog is in his master's heart."

Hi Sunday,

I'm so sorry for your loss. We all know how hard this can be, Mainers are wonderfully attached to our animals. As many people have mentioned here, they are a part of our family. When they've left us, it is so difficult to find comfort. I'm happy that you found a nice vet to make the transition a little easier and hope you find peace in your heart now that he's gone.

((( hugs to you and your family )))
