New England and Mainers in particular go for the "red snapper" hotdogs. We raised the kids on red snappers. There is a store in Pownal that sells steamed red snappers year 'round. I like them in the dead of winter, with baked beans, cooked on the BBQ grill, boiled, sliced down the middle and pan fried, with a roll or without.(not bun, roll! Bun is an old hair style!) I like brown hotdogs too ( I ain't too picky) though I like the red ones more. My daughter was thrilled when the local market she shops in Burlington ,VT started carrying red snappers! She had to call and tell me! Which do you prefer?
If I was starving to death, and the only 2 options were "red snappers" or my own finger, I would happily eat my own finger first. My mother and one brother liked the red hot dogs, shot full of all that dye. Ick!

I'm not too fond of the red dye either; however, you CAN get them at the deli sans the dye.
That said, I prefer the type over other "ballpark" brands.
Of course, either way, their origin is of questionable ground up parts so I don't eat a lot of them.

That red dye is the best part! Leaves a nice red ring around the pan you cook them in! Moderation is always the key when eating any kind of "mystery meat"!
you people are weird. talking about hotdogs and stuff. what is the difference between red and brown. I know about the snap but is there anything else that makes these red ones sooo special?
